In my work as a Math teacher, I have become known for promoting the communication of Mathematics electronically - using Word and Excel. In 1997 I received an Award For Excellence in The Use of Technology in the Teaching of Mathematics and the 10th Annual International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics. My work in the area of mathematical communication has moved to constructing Interactive Excel Templates for learning math, and I have presented Sessions and mini-courses on this subject at Annual ICTCM Conferences. I join with other mathematics educators who are concerned about the deterioration of math education on the subject of radicals and square roots. An increasing number of textbooks are downright wrong. This deterioration has spread from textbooks to the web, and it is taught incorrectly even at some respected math education centers. I have even heard some passionate defenses of doing it incorrectly, simply because doing it correctly might confuse students, or because you are constrained to teach it the way the textbook presents it, right or wrong. | Excel4 Math | Microsoft Excel is a robust tool for learning and teaching math. It is also a powerful graphing tool for students. My site has a good collection of Dynamic Interactive Templates as well as tutorials for the do-it-yourself types. |
